FoLL Book Sale Co-Chairpersons Needed

Do you have experience working in a bookstore or a small business?

The Friends are seeking several people willing to serve as Co-Chairpersons for the 6 Book Sales held each year in the Lacey Library Meeting Room. You will train and schedule volunteers, manage the inventory and generally oversee the setup and takedown of a Friday/Saturday sale.

On a smaller scale but more frequent basis, you would train volunteers to stock and straighten the in-house Bargain Books Sale and Lobby Cart Sale. Shelves are stocked and straightened daily by a team of volunteers, each working one morning per week.

Donations are sorted and priced at the Monday morning book sort with a dedicated team of Friends, who volunteer weekly just to sort. As a Book Sale Manager you would also have an active role training people for the sort.

Two or three Book Sale Managers will work together to divide the tasks according to their individual schedules so that everything works smoothly. As a Chairperson, you would also attend several of the 6 board meetings per year, divided according to your personal schedules, which occur every other month. As they say, “Many hands make light work!”

Interested? Leave your contact info at the Lacey Library Circulation Desk and a Friends board member will be in touch. We look forward to meeting you!

Cancelled: June book sale

Yes, it’s true…the June book sale is off. We are saving up our existing inventory, and, if the spring cleaning gods are kind to us, we will be adding more books to the pile for the August book sale.

In the meantime, keep us in mind when you clear out your reading rooms. We gladly accept donations of gently used books, audiobooks and movies. Bring them to the library counter to donate to the Timberland Regional Library system. If you would like to give directly to the Friends, we accept donations during our bimonthly book sales. Don’t forget to ask for a tax-deductible receipt.

We know how hard it is to toss a book, but, please, no dirty, musty, water-stained, or falling apart specimens (they really can’t be called books anymore). Toss them in the recycle bin. We don’t accept magazines or outdated textbooks and computer books either, but Lacey Library has a magazine rack in an alcove near the bathrooms where freebies can find a new home.

No fooling, we have manga, westerns and fiction!

AngelfaceThe April 1, 2017 book sale is shaping up nicely with a collection of Louis L’Amour pocket books, manga and lots of fiction. Library staff is combing through the couple hundred manga donated in recent weeks to stock library shelves, but there should be a pile left for the sale.

Louis fans will love the vintage pocket books. Westerns rarely come in, either paperback or hardback, so get here early. Be prepared to spend time browsing through the fiction and multimedia tables. VHS tapes are still around (don’t we know it!) and priced to move.

Prices have not changed: $1 hardbacks and trade paperbacks, 25-cent paperbacks (less if you buy five at a time) and children’s books that start at 25 cents. Videos are 25 cents to $3. Mangas will be priced as marked.

Sale particulars:
Friday, March 31–1 pm to 4:30 pm (members pre-sale*)
Saturday, April 1–9:30 am to 4:30 pm

Lacey Timberland Library, 500 College Street SE.  Turn right in the foyer toward the meeting room.

*Join the Friends and gain access to this pre-sale. Memberships are available at the door: $5 individuals and $10 family.
